𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀, 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲: 𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗘𝗧𝗖𝗦 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗥𝗢𝗫 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 Alpha Trains has extended its leasing agreement with Bayerische Oberlandbahn GmbH (operating as BRB) for 35 Stadler FLIRT3 multiple units. This ensures their continued deployment on the heavily used Rosenheimer Kreuz (ROX) network from December 2029 until 2043. Alongside this contract renewal, Alpha Trains is investing in an engineering milestone: retrofitting the forward-looking European Train Control System (ETCS) to an existing regional train fleet. Upgrading a fleet that carries 17 million passengers annually requires maximum operational efficiency. To minimise downtime and optimise vehicle availability for BRB, the ETCS retrofit and a comprehensive redesign will be carried out in parallel with the fleet’s scheduled second major overhaul. A strong network of technical partners is essential for delivering a complex, OEM-independent upgrade project: ✔️ Talbot Services GmbH: Responsible for project management and physical execution at their Aachen facility. ✔️ InterEngineer GmbH: Handling technical implementation, system integration, and the regulatory re-approval process. ✔️ Siemens Mobility: Supplying the onboard ETCS components that comply with the latest European Baseline 4 specifications. This project demonstrates how technical compatibility, economic efficiency, and modern maintenance planning can go hand in hand to support the digitalisation of European rail.
