In this special #IWD2026 edition of The Engine Room we ask Wendy T., our Chief People and Strategy Officer, to share her thoughts on leadership and taking action to balance the scales – proudly recognising her transformative, inclusive leadership, and work to build a more diverse and equitable future. What early career experience shaped how you lead today?  Being backed by leaders who encourage me to take on challenges, even when the path wasn’t linear. I’ve seen many talented women underestimate their readiness, or wait to feel 100% prepared, before stepping up. Those experiences taught me that equity requires both strong systems and empowering leaders who grow female talent, encourage stretch, and build confidence to succeed.      What barriers do women still face in leadership?  Women remain underrepresented in senior and executive roles. Progress requires intentional pathways, equitable promotion practices, and leaders who consistently and visibly back women’s development. What role do allies and mentors play?  A critical one! When leaders advocate for women, share opportunities, challenge bias and open doors, barriers come down and careers move faster. Mentors and sponsors aren’t symbolic — they’re active, deliberate and deeply impactful.    How can we move from conversation to action on gender equality?  By anchoring change in data and accountability. Publishing WGEA results, outlining clear plans and tracking progress ensures gender equality is part of how we lead - not a one-off theme. It also means designing inclusion into every stage of the talent lifecycle:  removing barriers in how we hire, promote, and support all talent, not just those who fit traditional norms. How do you support and sponsor women at Allied?   Visibility, opportunity and confidence. Putting women forward for roles, advocating in key forums, and helping them prepare for what’s next creates long-term change through small, consistent actions.      What leadership habit has made the biggest difference in your career?  Leading with values and taking a growth mindset: staying curious, asking questions, seeking clarity, and acting with fairness. And having the courage to challenge outdated ideas and systems not designed with women’s progression in mind.  #IWD2026 #BalanceTheScales #InternationalWomensDay #Inclusiveleadership #Equity #AlliedCredit
