Shipping safety is improving, but risks are rising. With 90% of global trade transported by sea, a single chokepoint like the Strait of Hormuz can disrupt global supply chains. The new Safety and Shipping Review from @Allianz Commercial notes that political and conflict-related risks are rising. Today, the industry appears more exposed to these risks than at any point in recent decades. At the same time, the Review shows that shipping losses continue to decline, reflecting the positive effect of an increased focus on safety measures over time: 🚢 Total shipping incidents are down 16% year-on-year to 2,818 incidents. 🚢 Losses declined 37% between 2021 and the end of 2025 compared to the previous five-year period. What emerges is a more nuanced picture of maritime risk: fewer headline losses, but continued exposure to high-frequency incidents that can disrupt supply chains and drive significant costs. Slide through the images to see the major causes of global shipping incidents in 2025. Where do you see the biggest risks in today’s shipping landscape? #Allianz
