Ever wondered what trainee life at A&G actually looks like? 🤔 Hear from our (now newly qualified!) capital markets Associate Ryan Ling about his time at A&G thus far, from the learning experiences during his training year and how he has transitioned into becoming a full-fledged associate at A&G. "It has been more than a year into my role at Debt Capital Markets, where I have the privilege of working on both bonds and traditional banking matters. This was inevitably challenging as a trainee but also immensely rewarding because A&G is where you can get unparalleled exposure in the breadth and scale of work you do. Debt Capital Markets is filled with partners and associates that consistently put out high quality work – working alongside such lawyers have sharpened my critical thinking skills and helped me grow professionally. The Debt Capital Markets team is incredibly supportive, and my seniors and mentor have always guided me along and taught me a lot about the substantive know-how in this practice area. It’s also common for people in the team to constantly check in on each other. Weekly capacity charts also help the partners to assess each associate/trainee’s workload and ensure that no one person is taking on too much – I think all these are very telling of the strong sense of collegiality in the department and Firm as a whole. Additionally, having a very structured trainee programme also meant that I was gradually allowed to take on more ownership of my work.
