Dr. John Ahn Brings the Micro- and Nanoplastics Crisis to the TEDx Stage Dr. John Ahn, PhD, MBA — Chief Scientist and Chair of the ALLATRA Global Research Center — took the TEDxStLouis stage on May 30, 2026, delivering a talk at the Missouri History Museum. His presentation, "Too Small to See, Too Dangerous to Ignore: Micro- and Nanoplastics," brought critical attention to one of the most urgent invisible threats facing humanity today. Dr. Ahn addressed how everyday plastic products break down into particles so small they cannot be seen — yet accumulate in our air, water, ecosystems, and human bodies. Emerging research links these particles to neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular effects, reproductive health challenges, and cellular disruption. Не also noted that while reducing plastic use, improving recycling, and developing cleanup efforts remain important, the removal of micro- and nanoplastic particles already dispersed in air, water, ecosystems, and biological systems remains extremely difficult at a global scale. Dr. Ahn emphasized the need for a broader scientific discussion on how these particles could be made less harmful once they are already present in biological and environmental systems. A key highlight of the talk was the role of electrostatic charge in explaining how these particles interact with biological systems — a scientific insight that may be central to developing future solutions. Dr. Ahn's talk invited the audience to look at micro- and nanoplastics not only as an environmental issue, but as an emerging scientific challenge that requires continued research, open discussion, and practical thinking about future solutions. ▪️Full press release can be found in the comments section below Featured on: Associated Press, The National Law Review, FOX 2, CBS 10, ABC 12, CBS 42, NBC 33, CBS 13, FOX 4, DC NEWS NOW, among others. #ALLATRA #TEDxStLouis #Microplastics #GlobalHealth #EnvironmentalScience #STOMP #TEDxSTL
