There’s a story behind every name – ours is all about allergy innovation, Danish roots, and an unwavering commitment to help those impacted by allergy. 💙 It all began in 1923 at Copenhagen University Hospital, where Dr. Kaj Baagøe and pharmacist Peter Barfod developed Denmark’s first pharmaceutically manufactured allergen extract. This medical breakthrough laid the foundation for modern allergy care – and for our company. After two more decades of innovative advances in allergy research, Barfod founded the Allergological Laboratory in Copenhagen in 1949, inspiring our acronym: ALK. You might have guessed it by now: Our name is short for Allergologisk Laboratorium København, which is Danish and translates to Allergological Laboratory Copenhagen. From those early days in a small lab to becoming a global leader in allergy care, our purpose remains the same: we’re here to help people with allergy worldwide. Curious to learn more?
