Ph.D. Research Assistantship Opportunity at George Mason University Position Summary: With the support of the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Mobility Observatory and Data Analytics Lab (MODAL) is seeking one doctoral research assistant starting in Fall 2026. The selected candidate will work on NSF-funded projects in a multidisciplinary team focused on the intersections of human mobility, climate stressors, disaster risk, transportation systems, and community resilience. The position is particularly suitable for applicants interested in travel behavior, climate impacts, risk analysis, community engagement, and mixed-methods research. We are looking for a student with experience or strong interest in data collection, focus groups, interviews, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and community-centered research. Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills are highly valued. Prior expertise in every area is not required. We are looking for someone who understands the intellectual and personal commitment of a Ph.D. journey and is ready to grow through sustained research, collaboration, and mentorship. Qualifications and Experience: Applicants should hold a master’s degree in geography, urban and regional planning, engineering, environmental studies, or a related field. Experience with GIS, statistical analysis, travel behavior research, climate or disaster studies, qualitative methods, or risk analysis is desirable.
