Last week at the SAP Enterprise Architecture MEE Bootcamp, I had the chance to present on a topic that is very close to my day-to-day work: the role of architectural deliverables in LeanIX. What I found more interesting (than my own session 😄), though, were the conversations around it. The role of the Enterprise Architect is clearly shifting. The environments we work in are getting more complex - more systems, more dependencies, more expectations (AI, data, integrations, clean core, you name it). And at the same time, there’s less tolerance for “high-level only” thinking. What seems to matter more and more: ✅ actually connecting the dots across topics ✅ staying with the customer long enough to see things through ✅ and being honest about what works… and what simply doesn’t Not everything fits into a clean reference architecture. And not every idea survives contact with reality. That’s fine - but it needs to be said. For me, that’s where the value of the EA role really is: bringing structure into complexity, without pretending it’s simpler than it is. It was good to see that this perspective is shared by many colleagues across the region. Makes the whole thing feel a lot less like “a role definition” and more like a craft we’re continuously figuring out together. Thanks to everyone for the open discussions - that was the best part. Thanks a lot for the invitation, organization, and great presentations to all SAP colleagues!
