Since the late 1970s, our cultural sponsorship programme has helped to preserve monuments and cultural sites across the world free of charge. The first spectacular project undertaken was the cleaning of the Christ the Redeemer statue – the distinguishing landmark of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro – in 1980. To this day, the cleaning projects have continued to be carried out in close collaboration with proprietors, responsible authorities, conservators, art historians and other specialists.
