The City of Santa Ana observed Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month in May with community programs, library events, and a major historical unveiling. ā Thanks to Councilmember Phil Bacerra (Ward 4), the first Filipino American elected to City Council, Mayor Valerie Amezcua & Santa Ana City Councilmembers for honoring our Asian Business Association, Orange County (ABAOC) on May 19, 2026 at City Hall to receive recognition on behalf of all AANHPI organizations to help our small businesses in Santa Ana and other cities in the County of Orange, California! ā Other Key AANHPI Month highlights in Santa Ana included: š Chinatown Memorial Unveiling (May 23, 2026) unveiling a memorial monument honoring Santa Ana's historic Chinatown. This commemorated the original settlement that helped shape the city, timed almost exactly 120 years after the original Chinatown was destroyed in 1906. š Library Cultural Programs: The Santa Ana Public Library hosted AAPI-focused cultural performances, workshops, and digital media features across Hoopla and Kanopy. š SAUSD Recognition: The Santa Ana Unified School District Board of Education passed a resolution in mid-May formally proclaiming May as AANHPI Heritage Month to honor local students and history.
