⚡️ The European Commission announced this week the new 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐚𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 as part of its 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞. It was great to have contributed to the development of this Communication during my time in DG ENER! As Europe’s energy system becomes increasingly digital, strengthening technological sovereignty is critical to improving resilience, competitiveness, and security in the face of rising energy costs and geopolitical uncertainty. The roadmap highlights the transformative potential of digitalisation and AI: 🔹 More than €71 billion in annual savings for consumers through demand-side flexibility 🔹 Up to €94 billion in annual savings for industry by 2035 through AI-driven operations and maintenance optimisation 🔹 Greater integration of renewables through real-time grid visibility, interoperability, and control The strategy is built around three key pillars: ✅ Sustainable integration of data centres into the energy system ✅ Faster deployment of digital and AI solutions, including smart meters and grid-enhancing technologies ✅ Secure cross-border energy data sharing across the EU Supporting actions on cybersecurity, AI trust, digital skills, and international cooperation will help ensure a clean, competitive, and secure energy future for Europe.
