I'm pleased to share one of our research contributions on the systematic design of resilient Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPSs). As CPPSs become increasingly connected and complex due to emergent behaviors and unexpected disruptions that can arise from the multiple interrelationships, designing them to anticipate, withstand, recover from, and adapt to disruptions is becoming a fundamental challenge. In our work "Resilient Cyber-Physical Production Systems Development: A Systematic Design Approach", we implemented Axiomatic Design (AD) to support the design of resilience-oriented CPPSs. The results provide design guidelines to: ✅ Enhance system robustness against disruptions ✅ Improve failure recovery capabilities ✅ Increase system adaptability to changing conditions ✅ Manage time-dependent system complexity throughout the system lifecycle Rather than treating resilience as an emergent property, our work demonstrates how it can be designed systematically from the early stages of system development.
