Just slightly proud that this came out... π . Two devotional poems by the more than formidable Anna Maria van Schurman (1607-1678), best known today as the first female university student in Europe (at Utrecht University) and for her plea for the education of women. These poems shed light on Van Schurman's thought and spirituality from the final years before her "Labadist turn, which have remained somewhat in the shadows to date. Our monograph provides an English translation (with the original Dutch on the facing page), critical apparatus, and lengthy introduction in which we shed light on the origins of these Dutch vernacular poems, their textual history, and their use. This project began more than 15 years ago, and I worked on it in the US, Canada, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and even the world windsurfing capital Bonaire! I am deeply thankful for the enthusiastic encouragement and gentle prodding of my co-author John L. Thompson, who was kind enough to become a dear friend along the way. The work is available from Iter Press (University of Chicago Press) in its The Other Voice in Early Modern Europe-series: https://lnkd.in/exC2nQWf
