I am pleased to share our recently published paper "Estimation of the power loss due to wake–turbine interaction in the Eólica del Sur wind farm located in La Ventosa, Oaxaca, Mexico". In this work, we developed a numerical and statistical framework to evaluate the power output of a wind farm in Mexico by jointly considering wake losses and wind resource variability. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study applying this type of analysis to a large-scale wind farm already in operation in Mexico. A key challenge was accurately characterizing the local wind regime, which exhibits an atypical bimodal Weibull distribution rather than the single Weibull distribution commonly assumed in wind resource assessment. Our approach provides an alternative for estimating wake losses, avoiding the computational cost associated with high-fidelity CFD simulations while retaining sufficient accuracy for wind farm analysis and optimization studies.
