Most “office moves” are really just box moves. The last commercial project we did in downtown Montreal was different. Roughly 6,000 sq ft of tech and professional services teams in a mid-rise building. Their only real KPI: keep people working, not just move furniture from Point A to Point B. Our approach at AKA Moving: • Pre-move site visit Walk the space, map access points, elevators, loading docks, truck positioning. Confirm building rules and time windows. • Inventory + labeling Every workstation, chair, screen, and box gets a clear label by team/zone so it can be unloaded in the right order, not in a pile. • Protecting sensitive equipment IT, monitors, and servers are wrapped with padded double-layer blankets, bubble wrap, and covers. Floor runners go down before we touch a single cart. • After-hours execution We scheduled the bulk of the move over a weekend/evening window to avoid elevator traffic and reduce disruption for neighbours and staff. • Phased unpacking Priority teams first: ops, client-facing, then the rest. That’s how people can be back at their desks in under [X] hours, depending on scope. Behind the scenes, we’re coordinating with: • Building management for elevator bookings, loading dock access, and security • Internal IT for the cutover plan so gear is powered down, moved, and powered up in sequence • Furniture teams for assembly/disassembly so nothing blocks corridors or fire exits For this client, everything was completed ahead of lease handover, with zero equipment damage and no surprise charges beyond the original quote.
