WHERE IT ALL BEGAN // While ‘AJ’ & ‘PA’ are important to our company’s 100 year history, it in fact, all started with ‘RJM’. Robert James Martin McBride (pictured) was AJ’s father who arrived in Adelaide, from Ireland, on the 13th October 1855 to start a new life. With 5 shillings in his pocket, he made his way to Burra to work in the copper mines. His career in the mine was short lived and before long he was working the land, purchasing his first property, The Gums in 1859.
