I just assembled a team of 5 students to do what billion-dollar healthcare companies won't: Tell women the truth about their bodies. Yesterday was our first in-person Dear Ovary team meeting. I thought we were building a women’s health platform, Turns out, we’re building a translator. Because here’s the problem: Most health content is written for other doctors. We write for the woman Googling her symptoms at 2am. In one afternoon, I learned things that made me rethink women’s health: 1) How “hysteria” literally means “uterus” and how that label still shapes bias today. 2) How your postcode can decide if you survive childbirth. 3) Why a cyst on your ovary isn’t just a “medical finding”, it’s something your best friend should be able to explain. And here’s the bigger takeaway for anyone reading this: If people don’t understand their own bodies, it’s not because they’re not smart enough, it’s because no one bothered to explain it in words they can use. In less than two months, we've proven something: 📚 Women are hungry for honest health information 🌍 Students can translate complex science beautifully 💬 Accessibility doesn't mean dumbing down (it means caring more) This isn't about disrupting healthcare. This is about finally making it make sense. And watching these brilliant minds work together? That's when you know you're building something that matters.
