Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury used the June 15 inauguration of a second A321neo final assembly line in Toulouse to publicly criticize European economic policy, warning that high energy and labor costs, combined with restrictive regulations, are eroding the competitiveness of European aerospace manufacturers against rivals in the United States and China. Speaking alongside French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot, Faury urged policymakers to place industrial competitiveness at the center of the 2027 French presidential election. The new line occupies space formerly used for A380 production, reflecting the broader industry shift from large four-engine widebodies to efficient narrowbody jets. Despite the added capacity, Pratt & Whitney engine shortages continue to constrain output, with incomplete aircraft currently parked near the Toulouse facility awaiting engines.
