The aviation industry loses billions of dollars each year to #mishandledbaggage. Specifically, $5B annually, according to #IATA, which also reported that airlines mishandled 33.4 million bags in 2024. One reason is that baggage still lacks the transparency and real-time visibility now common in other sectors. People can track a car to their doorstep and a parcel to the minute, yet when it comes to the already-stressful process of recovering a lost bag, many are still left guessing. Even when airlines have advanced in-airport baggage tracking data, the fragmented network of local courier services and disconnected systems often leaves passengers with no better update than "your bag will arrive later today." Imagine how much uncertainty could be reduced by applying accurate, real-time 'ETAs' to baggage recovery. Customers can receive a credible delivery window, live updates when conditions change, and access to tracking and routing information. Airlines can better manage and optimise the costly recovery process when bags are mishandled, accelerating their ability to reunite passengers with their luggage. The relationship between the airline and the passenger can be improved at the moment a passenger is already inconvenienced and feeling let down. Accurate ETA does more than improve baggage handling. It changes the emotional outcome of a service failure and opens the door to better customer experiences in the future. Read more about why the ETA is an important mitigating aspect of mishandled baggage and is increasingly central to airline baggage services: https://lnkd.in/gzztgyud #BaggageasaService #baggagetechnology #airlineancillaryrevenue #airlineoperations #aviationtechnology #passengerexperience #airportinnovation #travellogistics
