The next wave of #travelinnovation may be less about invention and more about integration. Some of the industry's biggest opportunities now lie in connecting processes that still operate in silos, by concentrating specialised platforms that improve productivity, strengthen service delivery and support more scalable business models. That was one of the takeaways from Grant Thornton's ‘Ones to Watch 2026’ report, which named Airportr among the 100 companies across hospitality, retail and travel technology. After years of inflation and labour shortages, operators in all three sectors have started consolidating around digital infrastructure that connects workflows rather than sitting alongside them. And the report states quite explicitly where this leads: "Taken together, these forces point to a sector entering a phase of sustained investment in technology, where value will concentrate around specialised, data-rich platforms that enhance productivity, improve service delivery and underpin more resilient, scalable business models,” according to Grant Thornton UK analysts Adam Bunch and Charles Cusworth. Of course, commercial aviation still has plenty of fragmentation issues to address, with baggage being one of the most operationally complex parts of the passenger journey, involving multiple stakeholders, handoffs and systems. That's where Airportr sits. By extending #baggagehandling beyond the airport and creating a shared, real-time view of the process, #BaggageasaService reduces friction for both travellers and the organisations serving them. Like us, the companies on the top 100 list are creating solutions that build the ‘connective systems’ between these fragmented processes while driving value for travellers and the brands that serve them. Thanks to Grant Thornton for recognising Airportr’s work and our impact on the growing number of airlines and airport partners worldwide, as well as the customers they serve.
