On May 22, #AIES together with the Vienna Institute for Global Studies (VIGS) and the Vienna School of International Studies (Diplomatische Akademie Wien) organised a public event on “What if the U.S. got Greenland? Reflections on NATO, European Security, International Law and the Arctic Future”. 🌎 📌 Discussions, moderated by Michael Zinkanell-Süss, focused on Greenland’s growing geopolitical importance and the implications of recent debates surrounding a possible U.S. takeover of the island. Speakers explored questions of sovereignty, international law, Arctic security, NATO cohesion and the future of transatlantic relations. The discussion also highlighted how climate change and great power competition are transforming the Arctic into an increasingly important strategic region. 🧭 🎤 Speakers included: Kenneth R.
