Stanford University did it for the US. We did it for the EU. The 2026 AI Index mapped AI job postings across US states. Using the same Lightcast data, we replicated the analysis for the 27 EU member states. Germany leads the absolute count every year from 2018 to 2025, followed by France and Poland. However, the underlying trajectories tell a more complex story: ➜ Germany only doubled its AI job postings over seven years. ➜ France, Poland and Portugal, by contrast, experienced a sharp rise over the same period. The most striking finding is the transatlantic divide. In 2025, California alone matched the AI job postings of Germany, France and Italy combined. The scale of adoption also differs significantly, the US sits at 2.5% AI job share, while most EU countries still hover around 1%.
