The market for dietary supplements is booming – by 2025, the 2 billion euro mark will be cracked in Germany alone. Whether ashwagandha, lion's mane or shilajit: trends such as longevity, gut health and women's health are massively driving the demand for plant extracts and functional mushrooms. But what sounds like "Pure Nature" in marketing is a real challenge in production. Anyone who promises "clean label" must master the complexity of natural raw materials: ⚠️ High variability: Active ingredient contents fluctuate depending on the harvest and origin. Without precise analytics, there is no standardization. ⚠️ Safety risks: Globally procured raw materials pose risks from contaminants such as heavy metals or pyrrolizidine alkaloids. ⚠️ Authenticity: In the case of inhomogeneous matrices, counterfeits and mix-ups are a real market risk. The consequence: Analytics is no longer a pure control instrument. It is a strategic building block for securing resilient claims and justifying the trust of consumers, retailers and authorities. As an independent laboratory, we support manufacturers in recognizing these risks at an early stage and making quality measurable – so that the megatrend does not fail because of the risk. How do you deal with the variability of plant-based raw materials? Is analytics more of a duty or a strategic advantage for you?
