Did you know 1 in 3 bites of food we eat is the result of insect pollination, but more than 1 in 4 North American bumble bee species are in decline? Native pollinator species loss isn't just bad for biodiversity. They're also better at the job. While the standard rented European honeybee needs 3-8 visits to pollinate a blueberry blossom, a native bee can do so in a single visit. On many conventional farms, natives make up less than 1% of pollinator activity. On ours, they're 5-7% and climbing. Last week AC Foods partnered with Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation to share more about their Bee Better Certification, which recognizes farms that protect pollinators through habitat and reduced pesticide exposure. We've partnered with Xerces since 2015, and since then, we've seen a 7x increase in pollinators within the beneficial habitats across our farms. With honeybee rentals costing ~$200 / acre, promoting native pollinators isn't just good for the planet, it can be good for the bottom line. Thanks to Xerces, Bee Better Certified, and Northwest Berry Foundation, for the important work you do! To learn more about AC's impact work, check out our full impact report: https://lnkd.in/ghNupHK5
