What healthy soils can do – a closer look at the Weinviertel region. In its program “Land und Leute”, Austrian broadcaster ORF accompanied Gabriel Piatti – farmer and AGRANA manager. The result is a tangible insight into how modern farming, humus building, and biodiversity work in practice – not as an ideal, but as part of everyday agricultural operations. What Piatti demonstrates is exactly what we discussed at the Vienna Soil Dialog as a strategic necessity: understanding soil as a living system, not merely as a growing medium. Healthy soils retain water, store carbon, and help stabilize yields even in challenging years – forming the foundation of food security, regional value creation, and resilience. For us as a processor of agricultural raw materials across several European countries, soil health is not only an environmental issue but also a raw material issue.
