Weekly Media Briefing Highlights – 18 June 2026 Ebola patients become infectious only after symptoms appear, unlike COVID-19, which can spread through close contact before a case is recognised. Africa CDC is therefore recommending symptom screening, including temperature checks, at points of entry and exit rather than routine traveller testing, which is unlikely to detect Ebola infection before symptoms develop.
