At the opening of Africa Health ExCon 2026, Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director General of Africa CDC, highlighted the ongoing #EbolaOutbreak as a stark reminder of the urgent need for Africa to invest in the local manufacturing of critical medical countermeasures needed for effective outbreak preparedness and response. He underscored the importance of advancing Africa’s Health Security and Sovereignty by building the continent’s production capacity and reducing reliance on external supply chains. Dr. Kaseya called on delegates to adopt the Cairo Initiative Manufacturing Compact and embrace the African Pooled Procurement Mechanism (#APPM) as a key platform for procuring outbreak-critical health commodities. He also urged the establishment of guaranteed offtake and reserve-capacity agreements to create sustainable markets for quality-assured health products manufactured in Africa. “APPM is how Africa turns fear into factories, and factories into health security. We will build sovereignty market by market, standard by standard, and outbreak by outbreak.” #AfricaHealthExCon2026 #HealthSecurity #LocalManufacturing
