The labor market continued to expand in May, adding 172,000 jobs while unemployment held steady at 4.3%. Healthcare added 35,000 jobs, construction gained 17,000, manufacturing added 7,000 and warehousing and storage increased by 6,400. The broader picture remains mixed: labor force participation edged down to 61.8%, manufacturing and warehousing remain below year-ago levels, and employers continue to balance hiring demand with cost pressures and uneven industry momentum.
