Happy International Women in Engineering Day 🙋‍♀️✈️ Behind every innovation are people – like our colleague Kateryna Smirnova. As a #SystemsEngineer for our mission systems, she develops system concepts and specifications for highly complex components. It all began with her early enthusiasm for maths, physics and space exploration. After studying applied physics in Ukraine and completing a PhD in electrical engineering in Karlsruhe, she found her way into the #AviationIndustry. “What excites me most is the initial phase of projects, when you’re developing use cases and devising new operational concepts.” She attaches particular importance to trying out new approaches, such as model-based systems engineering. At the same time, she passes on her knowledge and supports our up-and-coming talents as they develop. Her message to young women: “Don’t let prejudice hold you back. Keep developing, make your presence felt and follow your own path.
