Dr. Steve De Pooter is the Head of Research & Development at Aerobel since March 2020. He received his doctoral degree in Engineering Science in 2020 from KU Leuven for his work titled “Synthesis and implementation of aerogel for thermal insulation in buildings and atmospheric restoration”. The last 6 months of his PhD he worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, Cambridge, USA) in collaboration with Aerogel Technologies, LLC (Boston, USA) and successfully synthesized copper-doped polyimide aerogels able to convert methane into CO2. Steve has acquired a broad knowledge in the synthesis and functionalization of aerogels and is the first author of the paper titled “Optimized synthesis of ambient pressure dried thermal insulating silica aerogel powder from non-ion exchanged water glass” published in the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids 499 (2018) 217–226. He also presented his results at three international conferences (ISIEM 2018, ISASF 2018 and ACS NERM 2019). At Aerobel he focuses on energy conservation and efficiency by developing innovative solutions and products exhibiting a combination of extreme properties such as ultralow thermal conductivity, fire resistance, water repellency, low density, and high specific surface area. #Aerobel #Development #Research
