We welcomed the opportunity to participate in a recent community workshop hosted by Voices for Power in Seven Hills, NSW, that brought together AER staff and community leaders for an open and insightful conversation about energy. Community leaders shared the experiences and perspectives of the culturally and linguistically diverse communities they represent, helping to further inform our Retail guidelines review and broader program of work. This kind of engagement is a key part of how the AER listens to consumers and brings their voices into our decision-making. Participants highlighted the essential role energy plays in health, wellbeing and dignity, alongside the pressure many households face from high bills. We also heard that for culturally and linguistically diverse communities, energy information can be difficult to access or understand, even when translated, making clear, simple communication and trusted networks essential in helping people to navigate the energy system. Participants also emphasised the need for an energy system that is inclusive, fair and trusted, with equitable access to new energy services like solar and batteries. Thank you to Voices for Power for hosting the event and to everyone who took the time to share their insights with us. We look forward to continuing this conversation and using this feedback to help shape our work. #EnergyEquity #ConsumerVoices #CommunityEngagement #CALDCommunities #DiversityAndInclusion
