⚠️ Visitor alert! This week we welcomed researchers from the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC)'s Surficial Geology section for a #tour of the André E. Lalonde National Facility for AMS. The team got to see first-hand what happens to their samples after they are submitted to our Radiocarbon laboratory. First, they visited the preparation lab where our technicians perform the #chemistry that changes the shells, wood, bone, plants or other materials into pure #carbon (graphite). Then they saw the #AMS hall where the samples are measured on one of our two AMS systems. The data we generate is then sent back to the researchers and used to answer many different scientific questions. Our Surficial Geology section visitors use #radiocarbon data to learn when and how changes occurred to the landscape of Canada during the Ice Ages of the #Quaternary period!
