Montréal recently opened the West Island line of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM), marking another link in the city's connectivity. The REM was designed to improve mobility in the Greater Montréal area by connecting the Metro, bus, cycling, and pedestrian networks, while integrating as the fourth-largest automated electric light rail system in the world, creating an environmentally friendly, seamless transit experience. The project also includes the Édouard‑Montpetit (EMP) underground station, Canada’s deepest and the second deepest in North America, highlighting the scale and technical ambition of the network.
