The Alat free economic zone near Baku will intensify rail freight operations in the region, according to experts from ADY Express and ADY Container, subsidiaries of Azerbaijan Railways. The zone, located at the junction of East-West and North-South transport corridors, will function as the largest logistics center in the Caspian basin. This will increase the attractiveness of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. On May 22, 2020, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev signed the Decree on the establishment and organization of the Alat free economic zone. According to the decree, the Alat Free Economic Zone and the authorized body of the free zone have been established.
