Celebrating 48 years of Service! 🎉 Meet Rodney, a guest services associate at Advocate Children’s Hospital. Chances are if you have visited our Oak Lawn campus, you have been greeted by Rodney with a friendly smile and warm welcome. This month, he celebrates his 48-year work anniversary with Advocate. Rodney’s dedicated Advocate career began in 1978 when he worked part-time as a sterile technician in the laboratory department at the former Woodlawn Hospital, which was later acquired by Evangelical Health System, a precursor to the later established Advocate Health Care. After graduating high school, he continued part-time in both the laboratory and x-ray filing departments, and within two years, transitioned to a full-time role as a transporter in the x-ray department, where he was also cross trained to assist with patient registration. Beginning in 1983, Rodney started working in the environmental services department before transferring to Evangelical Christ Medical Center, which is now Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, serving as a transporter in the physical therapy department. After several years in that role, he transitioned to the adult rehabilitation center at Advocate Christ to be a patient care assistant. During this time, Rodney continued his education, earning certifications as a certified nursing assistant and medical assistant, as well as a phlebotomy license, remaining in this role for 10 years. In 1998, Advocate Christ established its guest services department, and Rodney was one of the original eight teammates in this department. This department later became a model for other Advocate Health Care hospitals. In Rodney’s role as a guest services associate, he has supported operations across the entire campus, including Advocate Christ, Advocate Children’s Hospital and various outpatient and physician office facilities. Today, Rodney continues to be committed to delivering exceptional service to patients, families and teammates at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn on the guest services team.
