Guillaume Faury - “GenAI has an incredible potential - We want to embrace AI and use it as much as we can.” That was the message from the CEO of Airbus during his special interview with Charlotte Reed of CNBC on the CEO Stage at Adopt AI - Grand Palais 2025’s edition. AI is not new for Airbus. The company has been using machine learning and deep learning for decades. What changed recently is scale, accessibility and strategic focus. Here are 4 key takeaways from their conversation: 1️⃣ 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐈 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲-𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 For years, AI at Airbus was mainly used by specialists. Generative AI changed that dynamic: - 70,000 to 80,000 employees trained on AI - Nearly 600 pilot projects initially launched - Refocused to about 20 high-impact initiatives The objective: move from experimentation to measurable operational efficiency. 2️⃣ 𝐀𝐈 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 At Airbus, AI is deployed across development, engineering, production and services. In manufacturing, the focus is on: - AI-powered robotics and automation - Quality inspection systems - Engineering simulations to design better aircraft faster 3️⃣ 𝐀𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐈 While AI is advancing rapidly in many industries, commercial aviation follows a stricter path. Today, AI is used in non-safety-critical functions, often to enhance safety rather than replace core systems. One example mentioned by Guillaume Faury: "Image recognition in automatic landing systems, helping detect objects on the runway that a pilot might miss" In contrast, defense applications move faster, with capabilities such as AI-assisted aerial refueling. 4️⃣ 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞’𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞: 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 Beyond technology, the conversation turned to Europe’s competitive position in AI and aerospace innovation. For Guillaume Faury, two priorities stand out: - 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞: European players must collaborate to compete with U.S. and Chinese ecosystems. - 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝: regulation should balance risk management with innovation opportunities. “If you protect too much,” he warned, “you just lag behind the others.” ——————————————— As AI reshapes aerospace, Airbus’ approach highlights a key shift: moving from experimentation to industrial transformation, while keeping humans at the center of critical decisions. 🎬 Watch the full replay here: https://lnkd.in/e3C7ZjHQ 📖 Explore the full CEO insights from Adopt AI: https://lnkd.in/eDdkJkYT #AdoptAI #Airbus #AI #Aerospace #DigitalTransformation #IndustrialAI #Aviation #TechLeadership
