The Adolphe Merkle Institute's Chair of Polymer Chemistry and Materials, Prof. Christoph Weder, has been awarded the prestigious Otto Warburg Lecture at the University of Bayreuth. Presented annually by the Otto Warburg Chemistry Foundation, this distinction honors outstanding scientists. Prof. Weder was recognized for his pioneering contributions to bio-inspired and adaptive polymer materials—research that bridges chemistry and materials science to create macromolecular systems capable of responding to external stimuli and dynamically adapting to their environment. These advances are paving the way for innovations in sustainable materials, soft robotics, smart coatings, and adaptive energy systems. With nearly 400 scientific publications, numerous patents, and the mentorship of more than 140 early-career researchers, Prof. Weder is widely regarded as a leading figure in functional polymer materials. His achievements include an European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant and the American Chemical Society’s Anselme Payen Award. He is an ACS Fellow (ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry (POLY)) and a member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences SATW. From 2010 to 2022, he served as AMI's Director and continues to contribute as Deputy Director. The Otto Warburg Chemistry Foundation supports research and teaching at the University of Bayreuth while promoting the visibility of chemistry in society. https://lnkd.in/dHMFyPGd Université de Fribourg - Universität Freiburg Unifr – Faculty of Science and Medicine #science #research #polymers #chemistry
