Stay Out of the Line of Fire It’s Not Just a Rule, It’s a Lifesaver In the shared video, two personnel were working near a drilling string. During the task, one of them was struck while trying to roll over the string by hand, a clear line of fire incident that could have been prevented. What went wrong? ☑️ Both workers were in the line of fire ☑️ No push/pull stick was used ☑️ No chokes to control movement ☑️ No lift plan or coordinated communication ☑️ No one intervened, even when the risk was obvious ☑️ Risk normalization, treating unsafe as “normal” because “nothing’s happened before” This is a hard reminder that: ✅ Situational awareness must be active, not passive- know your surroundings and anticipate hazards ✅ Tools exist for a reason - use push/pull sticks and chokes to avoid direct contact ✅ Every lift needs a plan - even routine tasks carry serious risks ✅ We must speak up - if you see something unsafe, stop the work ✅ We cannot afford to normalize risk - safety is not luck, it’s a culture Let’s stop seeing safety as a checkbox and start treating it as the lifeline it truly is. #LineOfFire #SituationalAwareness #HSELeadership #OilAndGasSafety #WorkplaceSafety #InterventionCulture #StopTheJob #RiskManagement #SafetyMatters #SpeakUpForSafety
