4th Year Medical Student

This weekend I had the privilege of attending and presenting my first ever poster at the Aspiring Plastics, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (APRAS) conference at the Royal Society of Medicine. I presented our project on burns education in medical school, which highlighted limited exposure to burns teaching and generally low confidence in key areas of burn assessment and management. Given the high number of burn cases and A&E admissions, these results reinforce the need to strengthen burns education within the curriculum. The rest of the conference was incredibly inspiring. We heard from surgeons working across the world in fields such as aesthetic surgery, global reconstructive work, and plastics in conflict zones. Each offered a unique and motivating perspective on the specialty. I also had the chance to take part in a series of hands-on workshops, including: skin lesion excisions and flaps, tendon repair techniques and introductory microsurgery practice. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to present our poster and to learn from many inspirational surgeons. #PlasticSurgery #Burns #MedicalStudent #Conference
