16 July 2026 - 📖 A contribution to the book of the UIA Union Internationale des Architectes: The #WisdomofTradition To build sustainably, do we have to reinvent everything? The #UIA offers another path: drawing on the #wisdom of tradition. That is the spirit of its new collective book, The Wisdom of Tradition, a dynamic cultural approach to #sustainablearchitecture, to which I had the honour of contributing (interview No. 15). The approach the book defends 👇 🏛️ #Culture is the forgotten fourth pillar of #sustainability, alongside the social, the economic and the environmental. 🔄 Tradition is neither copying nor mimicry of the past. It is a creative act of interpretation. 🌬️ #Vernacularbuilding, #windtowers, #courtyards, #thickwalls, #cisterns, is a genuine #climateintelligence accumulated over centuries. Low-energy solutions, already proven. 🌍 The challenges are global, but the solutions can only be local. 💬 My contribution extends this idea on the economic side: I argue for strong sustainability, where natural capital is non-substitutable, and for #climatejustice that compensates the South for preserving global common goods. The book brings together 25 voices of architects and thinkers from every continent, including Pritzker laureates Álvaro Siza Alejandro Aravena and Wang Shu. 🙏 My warm thanks to Emna Bchir and Carlos Zeballos-Velarde, who edited this book for the #UIA Sustainability Commission. 🎬 I sum all of this up in a few minutes in my new video. ----- 📅 16 juillet 2026 - Une contribution au livre de l'Union Internationale des Architectes : The Wisdom of Tradition Pour construire durablement, faut-il tout réinventer ? L'UIA propose une autre voie : puiser dans la sagesse des traditions. C'est le sens de son nouvel ouvrage collectif, The Wisdom of Tradition, une approche culturelle et dynamique de l'architecture durable, auquel j'ai eu l'honneur de contribuer (entretien n°15). Ma contribution prolonge cette idée du côté de l'économie : je défends une durabilité forte, où le capital naturel n'est pas substituable, et une justice climatique qui compense le Sud pour la préservation des biens communs mondiaux.
