Back in May 2018, I traded in my ThinkPad and GitHub access for a Mac and started working in Sketch full time. To be honest, I felt I was never a great developer. I studied it because at the time I thought it was the path for me, but somewhere along the way I realised it wasn't where I found fulfilment. Design was always my thing. It's 8 years later, and the first feature I've co-developed is now in production. Am I suddenly a good developer? Absolutely not. 👎 The difference this time is that I have the right tools and an incredible team around me to help. I won't be moving away from pen and paper or Figma anytime soon, but I definitely felt a spark. My product manager giving me a shoutout on my first merge request made me happy. Co-creating the feature with my engineering manager made both of us excited. My UX teammates bombarding me with emojis when I showed them the feature made me proud. And I hope shipping an impactful feature helped our customers run their businesses a little more smoothly. As for the image - it's from my internship back in 2017. Nyan cat used to run across the terminal while my webpack build was running. Somehow that was a lot more entertaining than watching AI think. Can we make these things fun again? 🌈 🐈⬛
