أحتفظ بهذه الصورة منذ عام 2014. في ذلك اليوم، وخلال معرض “مال أول”، جاء حضرة صاحب السمو الأمير الوالد الشيخ حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني، طيب الله ثراه، إلى جناحنا وأعطاني وقته. كنّا نروي قصة التاريخ الشفهي في قطر. سألني عن أصل الحكاية، وتحدّثنا عن انتقال ذاكرة هذا المكان بالرواية والمشافهة من جيل إلى جيل قبل أن تُكتب، وعن أهمية حفظها وروايتها بأصواتنا. وحين عرف اسمي، قال إنه يتذكّرني من حفل تخرّجي عام 2010، الحفل الذي شرّفنا بحضوره. مضت أربع سنوات، وما زال يتذكّر. إيمانه بالتعليم صنع الطريق الذي مشيته أنا وأبناء جيلي. مؤسسة قطر جعلت العلم حقّاً لكل قطري، ومنحتنا فرصة الدراسة في بلدنا بمستوى أفضل الجامعات. من هناك جاءت شهادتي وعملي، وجاء ذلك اليوم الذي وقفت فيه أمامه أروي قصة بلادي. أعطى وقته واهتمامه لشابٍ لا يحمل منصباً، بطيب خلقٍ وتواضع. اليوم تفقد قطر قائداً بنى وطناً. وأفقد أنا إنساناً جلس معي في يوم عادي، وترك لي ذكرى ما زلت أحملها. رحمه الله وأسكنه فسيح جناته، وحفظ الله قطر وقيادتها وشعبها. I have kept this photo since 2014. On that day, during the Mal Awal exhibition, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, may Allah have mercy on him, visited our stand and generously gave me his time. We were sharing the story of Qatar’s oral history. He asked about its origins, and we spoke about how the memory of this land was passed from one generation to the next through storytelling long before it was ever written down, and why preserving and telling these stories in our own voices matters. When he learned my name, he said he remembered me from my graduation ceremony in 2010, an occasion he had honored with his presence. Four years had passed, yet he still remembered. His belief in education helped shape the path that I, and many of my generation, have walked. Through Qatar Foundation, access to world class education became a reality for Qataris, giving us the opportunity to study at home to the standards of leading universities. That journey led to my degree, my career, and ultimately to that moment when I stood before him telling the story of my country. He gave his time and attention to a young man with no title or position, with genuine humility and kindness. Today, Qatar has lost a leader who helped build a nation. I have lost the memory of a man who sat with me on an ordinary day and left me with an extraordinary memory that I will always cherish. May Allah have mercy on him, grant him the highest place in Paradise, and continue to protect Qatar, its leadership, and its people. إنا لله وإنا إليه راجعون.
