Professor in Design for Sustainability

In a recent article published in CoDesign, I was in a co-author dream team led by Goeun Kuu-Park and including Andrea Botero Cabrera and Soroush Moradi, where we examined engagement with renewable energy technologies in schools. 'Energy' is often an abstract and vague thing and energy infrastructures are generally invisible. When young people design and make their own solar power devices according to situated needs, RETs become embedded in their everyday practices in a way that is 'seamful' - revealing sustainability issues and opening new possibilities for change. The infrastructuring of Making Energy Together with co-design tools builds collective capacities and social learning - making renewable energy a tangible and do-able thing we can live with.
