As human microbiome research advances, we face a critical tension: how do we champion Open Science while rigorously upholding Data Privacy under frameworks like GDPR? ​Our work with the Cloud4SAMS project addresses exactly this. Because the human microbiome can act as a "microbial signature" unique enough to potentially re-identify individuals, traditional anonymization isn't always enough.
