Our new paper with Opeyemi O., Zilan Zhang, and Gabriele Granello in Construction and Building Materials reports the first full-scale study of WikiHouse Skylark beams made from OSB. Nine beams tested to failure. Unlike the plywood generation, fracture in these beams started at the castellated joints in the bottom flange, where OSB's lower tensile strength is reached before the tabs can yield. Our FE model, using a fracture-based crack initiation criterion with no parameters tuned to fit the data, reproduces the failure location well — though the predicted crack-initiation force is higher than the experimental peak load for the longer beams, likely due to contact imperfections accumulating along the span.
