Content Strategist | Elevating Legacy Through Words, Work & Thoughtful Influence

I was thinking today, as someone who works with and speaks to recruiters every day, and something struck me. One of the biggest disadvantages a candidate can create for themselves in today's market is having no LinkedIn profile. The best recruiters don't just rely on a CV and a couple of reference checks. They build a complete picture before putting their reputation behind a candidate. References absolutely matter, but they're only one piece of the puzzle and I have experienced that many times they can be a bit biased. Candidates naturally choose referees who will advocate for them, so they rarely tell the whole story. The story that will continue in your company. That's why experienced recruiters also look for social proof. A professional LinkedIn profile helps validate career history, demonstrates consistency, showcases recommendations, highlights industry engagement, and gives recruiters greater confidence that the experience on paper aligns with reality. It doesn't mean someone without LinkedIn isn't a great candidate. There are genuine reasons some people choose not to have one. But in a competitive market, it removes an important layer of credibility and makes it harder for recruiters and hiring managers to build trust quickly. You don't need to become a content creator or post every week. Simply having an up-to-date profile with your experience, skills, and a professional presence can make a meaningful difference. In recruitment, trust is earned long before the interview. Your CV introduces you. Your LinkedIn profile helps validate you.
