Driving the solar energy transition | CEO SolarPowerEurope
"We have a very important day in front of us, one of the most important files in energy in this mandate." These are the words of EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen as he enters today's council meeting, where Energy Ministers will discuss some of the biggest policies in energy: grids, the post-2030 framework, and the energy implications of the war in Iran. All while Europe bakes in an unrelenting heatwave. A serious reminder that we must step up efforts to mitigate climate change. The only way to do this is: Ramp up homegrown solar, accelerate electrification and flexibility, and massively scale battery storage. This is the formula for Europe’s energy security, competitiveness, and climate action. How do we get there? We need a binding EU renewable energy target of at least 60% by 2040. SolarPower Europe, together with national solar associations across Europe, has issued a joint letter calling for a binding EU renewable energy target of at least 60% by 2040. Ending Europe’s dependence on imported fossil fuels requires continued deployment of renewables and storage at scale. Read our Joint Letter: https://lnkd.in/enER2Eb8
