The Elective Affinities between Alain Touraine and Latin America Ricardo Festi This article analyzes the first stage of Alain Touraine’s intellectual production and academic activities between 1940 and 1973, distinguished by his stu-dies of work and industry. In this same period, the French sociologist first came into contact with Latin America, especially Chile and Brazil, where he contributed to the development of research centers and had an agenda of theoretical reflection.
