Regulatory Risk & Client Remediation Leader | Driving Governance, Controls & AI-led Transformation at Citi

Today’s FORGE C12 session with Abir Mukherjee was supposed to be about Effective Team Management and a simple problem of scope creep. But somehow it ended up being about trust instead. We did a role play session where we rotated roles as either manager or lead analyst or an analyst and had the same scope creep scenario but three different seats. And I noticed that the problem itself barely changes. What changes is whether the person in that seat has the standing to push back, and whether the team actually has their back when they do. At one point Abir just said it, almost in passing “…invest in relationships and trust without expectations…” I will admit my first reaction was, okay, that sounds like something you’d post on a relationship advice page, not in a corporate training. But it sat with me the rest of the session. Because that is actually the thing missing when scope creep turns into a slow grind instead of a team conversation. No one is negotiating it together as a TEAM. Everyone is just quietly eating the extra work, one person at a time, calling it being a team player. The negotiation piece Abir talked about only works if the trust already exists. You can’t build it in the partner escalation or “Quick catch up” call where you need it. Small session, simple framework. Bigger lesson than I expected. Thank you Abir Mukherjee and Debangana Sanyal, CSM® for bringing this session together. #Leadership #ScopeCreep #ManagementTraining #TeamTrust #PeopleManagement #ComplianceLeadership
