⚠️ Last night, on the streets of Belfast UK, black and brown families had their doors kicked in and their homes and possessions set alight by white supremacists. The raiders were a masked and hooded group of racist thugs. It was a #pogrom clear and simple. ⚠️ Every few months I come on here, flag it and say 'it's getting bad'. We are now beyond that. We are not safe in our own country. We are now having legitimate conversations with family members about where to evacuate to if we are all kicked out. There will be handwringing and recalibration and 'two-sides' nonsense about anger and tension put forth in the media (social and conventional). Forgive the language, that's bull shit. It's hatred that's been incited over years. Here's what you can do if any of this worries you about the future of your home. 🤝 . Check in on colleagues who are people of colour. They will be silently terrified and angry, and talking about this, and how it's awful does help. Many of our organisations have offices in Belfast, exec teams should be all over this. 🏙️ . If you have ERGs see what they can/want to do about raising awareness or providing spaces to talk about this. Regardless of party, each one of them needs to feel the fullest weight of the voice of true Britain. This now needs cross-party leadership. No more complex explanations why they can't do anything meaningful except an impassioned social media post. They collectively have more power than any of us do - expenditure, sanctions, policing.
